Week 28

There is so much learning going on in our class. Let's take a look at the highlights.

In language arts, our sight words were "here", "was", "mom" and "dad". The letter of the week was Uu. We learned it with a silly song from Uncle Ugbee.

We also worked on the long U sound with Bossy E (also known as silent E). The bossy letter at the end makes the vowel say its name and the E is silent.

Our focus book of the week is Seed Secrets.

We began learning about dinosaurs by reading this book and taking a look at some dinosaur eggs.

We learned about dinosaur bones.

And made our own skeletons.

We learned facts about the T-Rex and wrote about him.

And we had a blast on our first field trip. Thank you to all who helped out on our field trip. I appreciate having extra hands to help out as needed.

In math, we are continuing in our guided math rotations. I have been working with the students on addition and factors of ten. We learned how to use the Rekenrek to help us solve addition problems.

We still continue to enjoy our tile time. Many thanks to the moms that have come faithfully to make this happen. I couldn't do it without you.

In social studies, we began learning about maps. We mapped out a park and put features on it using a map key. We extended our landform learning to Texas. We talked about how Texas has many different regions and landforms too. We learned how to make a map key and a compass rose and made a map of Texas and the surrounding states, country and gulf.
